Shift Magazine Interview – What Is A Good MLM?
In an interview with Shift Magazine, I answered some of the difficult questions people want to know when looking into joining a MLM business opportunity.
Here are some of the questions I answered:
How did you get started as a scam buster?
What are the criteria for a good MLM?
Can you suggest 3 things that someone should do when researching an MLM before joining?
In your research, what are some of the most unethical MLM business practices you have seen?
Click Here or the image below to read Shift Magazine. I hope you find it valuable. I have no relationship with Shift Magazine other than doing an interview for them. The other articles in the magazine may not reflect my opinions.
What is a scam ?
Every ” company ” that has overpriced and dubious products
Every ” company ” that demands large sums of money from
people in order to participate in the scam
Every ” company ” that gives high bonus for recruitment
low profits for selling the actual products
Every ” company ” that creates hype asking you to join now!
Every ” company ” that demonstrates super Hitters with
superficial income claiming that everyone can
make that kind of money
Every ” company ” that behaves to distributors like children
Every ” company” that does not show you the exact working
method instead sells you “tools” & “books”
from unknown “authors” from “college dropouts” genius

Hello Ethan,
In your interview with Shift Magazine you said:
“Commissions should not be paid more than 4 levels deep in a downline.”
What do you mean by that?
That the number of positions in a compensation plan is not important but that the payment should be made on a maxium of four levels?
In brief, my question is : is a compensation plan of for exemple eleven positions illegal or legal?
Thank you for your answer and for your awesome work.
Best regards
Thea

What I mean is that a compensation plan that is over 4 levels deep becomes by design an exploitative money transfer scheme. It creates unnecessary levels of people in the compensation plan so that those at the top are focused on recruiting and not selling products to customers. Having a compensation plan that is over 4 levels deep is currently not illegal in the USA. The FTC does not share the exact criteria that they use to classify an illegal compensation plan.

Can you tell me if the “United Games” group are scammers? I see Dustin Mitchell is one of the people involved. I see you have a story on him. I am wondering if the entire group is or if he just latched on to take advantage of a real company. Sorry for commenting on this story, I wasn’t sure how to contact you privately.

I’d like to know what you think about United Games too I’m considering join. Thanks Ethan! J

You are very welcome. I appreciate the opportunity.

OK Ethan, no names, but can you say how many/what percent of the MLMs out there fit your criteria? Is there at least ONE we’d know that does fit your criteria? 🙂

There is more than one and I would say the percentage is about 1-3 percent. Party planning MLM’s that have a good mechanism to sell products to people that are not in the MLM are a good example.

Ethan, thanks for sharing your Shift interview with us. Can you tell us which MLMs fit your criteria? Thanks.

I am sorry I can’t share that with you. It would be considered a recommendation for those MLMs which would be a conflict of interest for me as a scam buster.

I love to know more about wealthy affiliate. They been looking legit for years. Perhaps consider seeing what they’re up too?

I do not consider Wealthy Affiliate a scam. Please do not consider this an endorsement of Wealthy Affiliate. I personally do not make recommendations for business opportunities because it is a conflict of interest for me as a Scam Buster.
